Design is a term that means
many things to different people.
At one end of the scale, you have the small business
owner who wants to put up a few pages about a business
and manages to cobble them together with general purpose
office software.
At the other end of the scale, you have the expert Web
developer who likes to use database technologies to
pour text into whatever spare space there is on a page
regardless of how it looks. As long as it's big, and
there, it's fine.
Finally, there are those who care about how their pages
look and indeed, even they can be subdivided into 'stylists'
and 'designers'. The difference here is that the 'stylist'
puts the 'look' first, above every other criteria, whereas
the designer employs styling to make something that
works more visually appealing – because visual
appeal is one of the criteria for a successful design.
It's not the only one and not even the first priority
in most cases.
Above all, design is about standing back, taking a detached
view of the task in hand, analyzing it, exploring it
and coming up with solutions that are as unique as the
problems presented.
That's what 'design' is really all about. Get that right
and you can stick any word you like in front of it. Does your business need Insite? Contact us today to find out.
